This plant grows wild in the Nile Delta in Egypt. The plant has a myriad of names, botanically named Nymphaea caerulea its also referred to as Egyptian Water Lily and Sacred Blue Lily. The origins of this flower is steeped in a rich history of Pharaohs, divine spirituality and royalty.
It’s classified as a sedative with trip reports comparing it to the high of cannabis and the happy, calm feeling of MDMA. It’s ingested in a number of different ways. The macerated petals can be soaked in alcohol, traditionally red wine, for a minimum of 3 hours or for up to 3 weeks. Alcohol is known to intensify the effects. As a tea, dried or fresh petals are steeped in hot water for 20 minutes. Honey, sugar and other herbal teas can be added. It comes as a powder, liquid tincture and the dry leaves can also be smoked.
Effects come on about 30 minutes after consumed and can last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. After effects of a calm, relaxed demeanor and positive outlook have been reported lasting up to a week after. Its great to use a few hours before bed as the plant can create vivid, lucid and prophetic dreams.
