Amanita Muscaria – The Other Magic Mushroom

What is Kratom?

Kratom, botanically named Mitragyna Speciosa, is a cousin to the coffee plant and native to Southeast Asia. Its leaves have a psychoactive compound that cause feelings of relaxation, calm and focus. The leaves can be chewed whole, dried and made into a tea or dried, powdered and consumed in pill form. Kratom is both used medicinally and for recreation.

Kratom acts as an opioid receptor similar to Morphine, but with less addictive properties. Uses include pain management for both emotional pain like post traumatic stress, and physical pain. Other applications include anxiety disorders, stress management,  Attention Deficit, and can be used in place of methadone when trying to kick a opiate habit like heroine or oxys.

Like coffee, kratom has many different strains, and its effects are slightly different depending on the strain. Its important to be careful which company you order your kratom from since a few of them are adding research chemicals to their product. Naturally occurring metabolites can be detected in urine samples, but most traditional drug tests don’t monitor for them.  These metabolites can be extracted and added to back into kratom making it more potent and your kratom experience more naturally intense.

My personal preference is the Indonesian strain, however Maeng Da is wonderful for relaxation. There are a number of other strains out there that I’m looking forward to trying and combining. Let me know if you’ve tried it and what your experience has been.
